Identifying neural signatures in OCD patients receiving DBS treatment

DBS is a form of treatment for severe OCD in which implanted electrodes stimulate targeted regions of the brain. Current DBS stimulation is constant, but symptoms are not, causing “hit or miss” effectiveness that needs to be frequently adjusted at clinician visits. My client has been studying neural patterns in patients with recording-capable DBS devices, to detect signature patterns that correspond to pathological behavioral states. By identifying these patterns, DBS devices can then potentially be programmed to automatically detect symptom states and adaptively self-modulate its electrical output, improving treatment efficacy.
